  1. My first thoughts on this article was shocking I cannot believe he said that about this tragic event. In my opinion these things don't just happen, there's obviously a reason why the gun man had these evil intentions. He should be a little more courteous on sensitive topics.

  2. I agree with Jonah, as the fact that people do not just commit crimes out of no reason. Obviously in some twisted way, there is always a reason behind these events and Bush should have been more careful with the words he chose to describe the event.

  3. I agree with Jonah and Madeline. It was surprising to hear Bush's response. Bush should have been more considerate in his comments. If you watch the video, it was quite evident that Obama did not appreciate Bush's comment. Then when Bush was questioned about his response, he got really defensive and lost a bit of composure.

  4. I do believe things can happen, but you can always try and make rules to stop certain things from happening. They might not always work, and people could always get guns illegally, but if they had good patrols in schools and kept eyes on people who are mentally unstable then the world could become a better place.

  5. I think what he said was disrespectful to the families who lost someone. Stuff happens, but there's things you can do to help prevent it. I think he was really insensitive considering this is a very sensitive topic.

  6. I agree with Kathryn when he addresses such an event the way he did, seemed very disrespectful. He should be saying words of comfort and addressing ways to prevent future events like this. When talking about losses a leader must be respectful and comforting, this will gain the favor of the people.

  7. I agree with what you guys are commenting above. I believe he is just trying to defend himself and contradict what he actually meant to say. There is no interpretation in any other way for the reason why he would say this and then say he was not referring to the Oregon Massacre when the reporter was specifically referring to that topic. As any person or even especially a president running for office, of course you may feel like you are saying one thing but to the audience it feels totally different.

  8. When speaking on such sensitive topics, it is best to carefully consider what you will be saying. I am sure Bush did not mean to sound insensitive, but, when taken out of context, this phrase sounds extremely disrespectful.

  9. Stuff does happen, but I don't think that was a wise comment for Bush to say. If I was a grieving person suffering from the loss of a victim, I would most likely get really upset at Bush. He probably lost a considerable amount of supporters this way.
